Memorial website in the memory of your loved one

This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Dewey Dion who was born in Gurneyville, Alberta, Canada on April 21, 1938 and passed away in Bonnyville, Alberta, Canada on November 10, 2008 at the age of 70. We will remember him forever.

Dewey has a lengthy battle with Prostate Cancer. He fought every step of the way. He was such a brave man, he wouldn't let you know if he was hurting. He would still make you laugh and cracked jokes right to the end.

Although he was confined to a wheelchair, it didn't stop him from doing the things he loved. He would often sit and watch his grandchildren play and the horses running in the pasture. His love for the western life was definately a passion. He loved riding his horses, driving his team and rode in the rodeo as a Saddle Bronc rider in his younger days. He got injured many times in the rodeo but would continue on once he was better.

Dewey was very family oriented and loved the company of all his children and grandchildren, especially on holidays. He would often phone his children when he could, just to talk and ask them to come and eat. That was his way of getting you to go over and visit, even if you had already eaten. He was a very pursuasive man. He loved his bannock and tea.

He was survived by his loving wife Cecile, 7 daughters, Joanne, Carol, Josie, Aimee, Andrea, Rhonda and Glenna and 1 son, Shane "Toots". His 2 brothers Gabe and Gordon and 2 sisters Delia and Isabelle. He had 27 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 3 adopted grandchildren. His grandchildren were his most prized possessions.

My dad was a huge part of our family, he was our rock. He will be dearly missed and always loved by all who knew him. Rest in Peace Dad.

Rodeo Cowboy's Prayer

A Rodeo Cowboy's Prayer

Our gracious and heavenly Father,
we pause in the midst of this festive occasion,
mindful and thoughtful of the guidance that you have given us.

As cowboys, Lord, we don't ask for any special favors,
we ask only that you let us compete in this arena, as in lifes arena.

We don't ask to never break a barrier, or to draw a round of steer that's hard to throw, or a chute fighting horse, or a bull that is impossible to ride.

We only ask that you help us to compete as honest as the horses we ride and in a manner as clean and pure as the wind that blows across this great land of ours.

So when we do make that last ride that is inevitable for us all to make, to that place up there, where the grass is green and lush and stirrup high, and the water runs cool, clear, and deep - You'll tell us as we ride in that our entry fees have been paid.

These things we ask - Amen.
